THE CLASS

On this 2 day class Sarah will share her own techniques and 30 years of expertise, to help you complete this beautiful dress, in a warm friendly, encouraging environment. Supporting you every step of the way to give you the confidence and abilities to start you out on your dressmaking adventure, so you can discover the joy of knowing you made your own beautiful unique dress!

There will be tea and cake throughout the day to keep you going and a buffet lunch is included too!

On booking Sarah will send you all the information you’ll need for this workshop.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner to Budding Seamstress

This is the perfect class for the beginner dressmaker or someone who needs a refresher in the basics of dressmaking. You don’t need to have made any clothing before but you must be able to use a sewing machine confidently and know how to thread one, sew in a straight line and ideally have completed a few simple projects such as a pump bag or cushion.

THE DRESS

We will be making the New Look 6431 Pattern which you’ll receive for free! It’s a classic style with a fitted bodice and pencil skirt, that will suit a wide range of body shapes and sizes and can be made with a boat or scoop neck.

DRESS SIZE

The size range for this pattern is 6-16. If you are at the beginning or end of the pattern size range, please could you let us have your measurements before the class starts, so we can make sure we have the correct size for you.

YOU’LL LEARN HOW TO:

•Read and understand the information on a pattern envelope.
•Measure yourself correctly and choose the right size garment to make.
•Lay out pattern pieces and understand and transfer pattern markings.
•Make simple pattern and fit adjustments.
•Create and stitch pleats.
•Create and stitch darts.
•Sew in a zip.
•Face a neckline.
•Finish raw edges of the dress and how to choose the best method for your garment and fabric.
•Understand and use professional stitch techniques to finish your garment beautifully

MATERIALS AND FABRIC REQUIREMENTS.

For the first session you’ll need to bring your fabric, matching thread and a matching 22inch standard zip.

CHOOSING YOUR FABRIC

Medium weight Cotton is the perfect fabric to use, something like a Cotton Poplin or Quilting Cotton, which is also really nice to use for the beginner dressmaker. You’ll be sent more fabric information and ideas on where to purchase fabric upon booking your place.

For 45 inch wide Fabric: 2m

For 60 inch wide fabric: 1.5
